With natural gas prices soaring, the AdBlue cost has reached record highs, and its producers do not know when the value will stabilize.

Earlier this year as countries emerged from their Covid lockdowns, urea prices began to rise along with wholesale gas prices. A sudden increase in demand led to production sites in Europe closing down, limiting the supply chain and compounding the increase in urea prices.
AdBlue is composed of demineralised water and urea (32.5%). It is also known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid (AUS 32) and it is intended to reduce harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) from diesel vehicles to non-hazardous gases.
How does Adblue cost effect me?
As a general rule, AdBlue is consumed between 4% and 8% of diesel consumption. In other words, you use about 6 litres of AdBlue for every 100 litres of diesel.
How Is Adblue Used?
AdBlue is used in vehicles with a Selective Catalytic Reduction catalyst, which ensures that exhaust gases are treated before they leave the vehicle. The majority of heavy-duty vehicles meet the Euro 4, Euro 5 and Euro 6 standards. Most trucks built after 2005 are affected by this; the first passenger cars with diesel engines and SCR were introduced in response to the Euro 6 standard in 2014.
The SCR is located behind the particulate filter in the exhaust. Whenever a certain amount of NOx enters the catalyst, AdBlue is injected from the AdBlue reservoir. The SCR catalyst converts AdBlue into ammonia and carbon dioxide, resulting in nitrogen and water. The formed ammonia reacts with NOx to create non-hazardous substances. SCR catalysts ensure that this reaction occurs rapidly and sufficiently.
